Homewood Farmers Market is on for 2021

The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs, in partnership with Serve Illinois, announced on Monday, Nov. 1, the 2021 Serving Those Who Served program, a week of service projects created to thank service men and women, veterans, and their families across the state.

Activities will begin Nov. 4 and end on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

The program includes projects such as painting, landscaping, event planning and execution, and writing thank you notes to service men and women and veterans in the Anna, Chicago, LaSalle, Manteno, and Quincy veterans’ homes. Serving Those Who Served recruits volunteers for its own projects as well . . .

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
