A round of applause and a standing ovation were given to outgoing Homewood village trustee Barbara Dawkins at the Oct. 12 board meeting.

The board unanimously passed a resolution for Dawkins, who stepped down after 12 years on the board due to her appointment as an associate judge in the Cook County Circuit Court. She was sworn in during a virtual ceremony on Oct. 4. Her term will expire on June 30, 2023.

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
