BLACK JOURNALISTS IN HISTORY
John H. Johnson (1918 – 2005) was a publisher and the founder of the Johnson Publishing Company which created Ebony and Jet magazine and is headquartered in Chicago.
Johnson graduated from DuSable High School and University of Chicago, after working his way through college. In 1982, Johnson became the first African-American person to appear on the Forbes 400 list.
In 1987, Johnson was named Black Enterprise Entrepreneur of the year, and in 1996, President Bill Clinton presented him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
