The Homewood village board approved an agreement with CSX railroad Tuesday, the latest move toward sourcing water from Hammond, Indiana.
The contract allows Department of Public Works and contractors all necessary easements on railroad property to install a 30-inch water main that will connect the village to facilities in Chicago Heights. Homewood expects to be connected by the time its contract with Harvey for Lake Michigan water expires in December 2022.
In other business, $565,000 in Motor Fuel Tax funds were allocated for street repairs. Improvements will be made to Delta Road from Coach Road to May Street; Jodi Terrace from 191st Street to the dead end; Olive Road from Center to Aberdeen; Spruce Road from Dixie Highway to Western Avenue; Ashland Avenue from 187th Street to Idlewild Lane; and Elder Road from Center Avenue to Aberdeen.
The Seafood Basket Market, located in the Shell Mini Mart at 17943 Halsted St., received a parking variance. The restaurant will have carry-out service.
A liquor license was approved for The Saucy Crab, a restaurant coming to 17628 Halsted Street.
The board approved a collective bargaining agreement with the Metropolitan Alliance of Police representing Homewood police officers. It includes a new requirement that police who discharge their firearms on duty are subject to drug and alcohol testing prior to the end of their shift. Police also will get a 2% cost-of-living raise.
