The first winter weather advisory of the season will go into effect this afternoon and extend to Wednesday morning.
Snow is expected to begin this afternoon, mainly after 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The chance of precipitation is 90%, but accumulation should be less than half an inch.
Then overnight, snow will likely turn to freezing rain and sleet before 3 a.m., then rain, possibly mixed with freezing rain between 3 and 4 a.m., then rain after 4 a.m.
Winds will pick up to 10 to 20 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph.
The chance of precipitation overnight is 100%. New ice accumulation should be less than a 0.1 of an inch. New snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch is possible, according to NWS.
On Wednesday, rain could turn to a mix of rain and snow between 2 and 5 p.m., then a chance of snow after 5 p.m. The chance of precipitation is 90%, but little or no snow accumulation is expected.
The weather advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. today until 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Another bout of winter weather is expected on Friday, with a mix of rain, snow and freezing rain starting after midnight Thursday.
