Candidates file petitions for April 2021 election

Candidates in next April’s local elections started filing their petitions and other necessary paperwork on Monday.

Voters in Homewood and Flossmoor will choose mayors and village trustees on April 6 along with school board members, park board and library trustees.

In Flossmoor, Michelle Nelson and Lakshmi Emory filed for the mayor’s position. David Walano and incumbents Brian Driscoll and Joni Bradley-Scott filed for four-year trustee posts. George Lofton III filed for a two-year unexpired trustee term.

Leilani Shute filed for a trustee position on the Flossmoor Library Board.

All the village board candidates except for Bradley-Scott showed up at Flossmoor Village Hall at 8:30 a.m. and will be eligible to take part in a lottery to determine ballot position. Assistant Village Manager Allison Matson collected their paperwork at the door of the building, which is closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Candidates for school board posts in Homewood-Flossmoor High School District 233, Homewood District 153 and Flossmoor District 161 are filing their candidacy papers with the Cook County Clerk’s office.

The H-F Chronicle, for the third straight local election cycle, will provide readers with an election guide with information about candidates and their positions on issues facing Homewood and Flossmoor.
