Homewood library adds service hours to schedule

The Homewood Public Library is extending service hours for materials pick-up service to regular business hours.

The library, 17917 Dixie Highway, is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays starting Sept. 13. Patrons can come into the library by appointment. Appointments are set on the hour. Visits are limited to 45 minutes, giving staff 15 minutes to clean spaces before the next visitors arrive.

Increasing pick-up hours will make it more convenient for library users who have been restricted to curbside pick-up during limited hours on rotating days, said Colleen Waltman, library director.

Waltman said reserved library materials are now available to non-Homewood library users. Their selections also can be picked up at the drive-up window.

Patrons can file requests 24/7 at homewoodlibrary.org. Patrons needing assistance can call the library at 708-798-0121, extension 216, during regular business hours, or send an email with questions to [email protected]. Put the word “holds” in the subject line.

The library has been assisting patrons while staying within COVID-19 safety guidelines. Waltman noted library service updates have been happening since the library first reopened to staff in April. Electronic materials were available shortly after staff returned. The physical materials were available starting in June with curbside pick-up. In July the library building opened to patrons with appointments.

Waltman said the library’s board of trustees will assess when changes for additional services and access are appropriate. She said changes have “proceeded slowly and cautiously for the safety of all.”
