D161 board to review detailed draft reopening plan on Monday

At its July 13 meeting, the Flossmoor School District 161 Board of Education approved a plan that would allow parents to choose between a hybrid in-person/remote learning option and all-remote learning when school opens in the fall.

At the board’s July 20 meeting, discussion of a more detailed draft plan is on the agenda .

The meeting at 7 p.m. will take place virtually. Login information will be distributed by email.

In a memo to board members, Superintendent Dana Smith noted that the plan is in draft form because guidance from the state continues to evolve.

The current version of the plan provides details about health screenings prior to attendance, use of personal protective equipment, training for students and staff, food service, transportation, contact tracing and schedule changes to account for the additional time required for COVID-19 mitigation measures.

Also on the agenda:

  • A proposal to adjust the school calendar, making Aug. 17 the first day of classes and taking into account that Election Day, Nov. 3, is now a holiday.
  • Discussion on the possibility of withdrawing from the Illinois School Insurance Cooperative in preparation for joining a larger cooperative.
