The Flossmoor Public Library, closed to patrons inside the building since Illinois’ stay-at-home order went into effect in March, reopened Monday for timed appointments.

As the library reopens, groups of patrons are allowed inside the building for 75-minute time blocks.

Under rules established to ensure the health and safety of the public, patrons are allowed to go through the shelves and use computers. Some areas of the library are closed and some materials are not available.

According to the library website, patrons must wear masks while in the library. Persons who do not wish to wear masks can contact the library to arrange curbside, touchless service.

Appointments must be scheduled in advance and patrons must arrive within 10 minutes of their appointment time. Same-day appointments are acceptable as space allows.

Appointments begin at 9:30 a.m. and will not be extended past the 75-minute limit.

Most furniture is not available for use. Tables and chairs at the computer area are reserved for computer stations only. Lingering at the library is discouraged.

The library is asking that patrons respect social distancing guidelines both inside and outside the building. That request extends to persons participating in curbside pickup or queuing up for an appointment time.

Newspapers will not be available. Magazines will be available for checkout, but not for in-house browsing.

Computer usage is limited to one hour per day. Computers are available by appointment only and patrons may reserve a computer when they call to schedule a library visit. Reserving time to visit the library does not guarantee access to a computer, the website says.

Inspiration Station, study rooms and meeting rooms are not available for public access.

Appointments are for one person only. When making an appointment, anyone being accompanied to the library needs to indicate how many people will be in their party.

Librarians are limited in their ability to lend assistance on the computer, scanner, copier and fax machine.

As the library reopens, curbside service will continue to be offered to patrons.

Additional information is available by calling the library at 708-798-3600. Curbside pickup can be arranged at Patron Services, extension 3. To schedule visits, patrons can call Adult Services at extension 4 or Youth Services at extension 5.
