Flossmoor village hall will reopen on Monday, June 29, after being closed to the public since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Illinois moves into phase 4 of Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s Restore Illinois plan, businesses and municipalities statewide are taking a step toward a gradual reopening with new safety guidelines.
In Flossmoor, all village staff will be taking precautions as they interact with visitors. For instance, police, fire and public works staff are to continue wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as established in previous guidelines.
Everyone entering facilities is required to wear a mask or face covering, and the front desk and building department will have masks available.
Visitors must also get their temperatures taken by walking past a pedestal thermometer in the lobby or by a staff member with a handheld device. A second pedestal thermometer is located near the village hall boardroom for use by employees and for public meetings. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will be retested and asked to leave and conduct business remotely if their second screening is not below 100.4.
Residents are encouraged to continue conducting business with the village remotely — by email, drop box, mail or phone. The village hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road, will be open during regular hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visitors should enter through the north doors. The east doors from the parking lot are marked ADA Access only, though they will remain unlocked. Any visitor to the building department will be asked to use the north staircase or the elevator.
In-person meetings will be held where physical distancing is possible, such as in the boardroom or committee room.
Village board meetings have been conducted remotely since Pritzker’s shutdown order went into effect in mid-March.
In an interview session this week, Village Manager Bridget Wachtel said Flossmoor officials are considering holding an open village board session on July 6. If that happens, board members and other persons in attendance will be required to follow social distancing protocols. Interested persons should check with the village to see if an open meeting will take place on that date.
Wachtel said no Flossmoor employees — including police and fire personnel — have tested positive for COVID-19 since Pritzker ordered the shutdown.
