A series of storms rolled through the area Monday afternoon and evening, and one took out a tree on Cowing Court in Homewood in spectacular fashion. 

Brian Quirke of Homewood submitted photos of the tree, which apparently was hit by lightning shortly after 8 p.m. and exploded, collapsing on several parked vehicles nearby.
