Shawn Santos became Homewood’s newest firefighter/paramedic on Monday.
Village clerk Marilyn Thomas administered the oath of office at village hall as fellow firefighters looked on.

Santos had worked for the Homewood Fire Department on a part-time basis, and worked for the Village of Markham full-time before accepting the full-time position with Homewood.
A graduate of St. Lawrence High School, Santos earned an associate’s degree from Moraine Valley Community College and went through paramedic training at UChicago-Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital.
Santos and his wife, Kaitlyn, live in Homewood with their five-year-old son and newborn twin daughters.
