Graduation 2020 is an important step in life

This year, graduation season is different. Celebrations are on hold, but graduates still deserve congratulations for all their efforts. Achievements both large and small get a round of applause.

The yard signs have popped up, there are social media blasts recognizing the graduates and of course, virtual events are marking the special recognition and graduation dates. You may still hear the familiar notes of Elgar’s March No. 1 in D Major that we all recognize as “Pomp and Circumstance,” but students won’t be marching in procession.

For graduation 2020, “We’ll hope to make it as special as we can for our students because they certainly deserve it,” said Amabel Crawford, principal of Parker Junior High.  Teachers and administrators at all of the schools in Homewood and Flossmoor share her sentiments.

And a word of advice is shared by Rebecca Brandt, Class of 2020, to the incoming class at Homewood-Flossmoor High School:

“Stay on top of the work, because it’s better to get it done that night than stressing about late assignments. And I would tell them to become friends with as many people as they can and with teachers that they have. Some of my best memories are from great conversations I’ve had with some of my teachers over the years. And everything is so much more enjoyable when you’re trying to be outgoing. I’m an introvert but I try to push my boundaries to make a lot of friends, and talk to my teachers a lot.”

Graduates, you’ve earned all the accolades. Congratulations!
