Golf foursomes resume, personal training starting at racquet club

Get your buddies and play a round of golf this weekend.

That’s right — buddies (plural). Under the state’s Restore Illinois initiative, foursomes can play golf starting this weekend. The restriction of two persons per round, put in place May 1, is being lifted.

Golfers also can use carts — two to a cart if they are family, or individuals can use a cart. For the past month golfers have had to carry their bags or use push carts.

Debbie Kopas, executive director of the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, said tee times are being moved up from 15 to 10 minutes between foursomes.

“In a normal year we do 8-minute tee times so it’s almost back to normal,” she said.

With the change in numbers and spacing, the park district’s Coyote Run Golf Course will go from eight players per hour to as many as 24 golfers on the course each hour.

Reservations are being accepted and can be paid for online at hfparks.com.

The Pro Shop and clubhouse remain closed, but merchandise can be ordered for pickup, and diners at Wiley’s Grill will be able to enjoy a meal on the patio and bocce area. Servers will wear masks and there’s a maximum of six people to a table. Wiley’s staff also provides curbside meal pickup service.

The H-F Racquet & Fitness Club will open on a very limited basis. Anyone with a personal training package as part of their membership will be allowed to start one-to-one personal training sessions the week of June 1.

Club members and trainers will be required to wear masks and follow social distancing. The trainers will be sanitizing equipment before and after each workout session, Kopas said.

“We’re trying to do it in the safest way possible for our staff and the community,” she added.

Cardio and fitness sessions will be offered outdoor at the racquet club parking lot. The sessions will be limited to no more than 10 participants.
