District 161 hires new director of special education

READ-WALK TO BOOKIE'S - Strap on your reading shoes and head to downtown Homewood for the Book Walk. Read "Feathers For Lunch" along the newly decorated windows, then pick up a free copy of the book at Bookie's while supplies last.

BUNDLE IT UP - You can help local nonprofit organizations by filling a bag with supplies they need. Through Flossmoor's MLK Jr. Day of Service, volunteers can create DIY Bundles in five categories of food, personal care and recreational items. See the village's Facebook page for details.

Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Homewood 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, then follows Ridge Road to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
  • Flossmoor 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and ends downtown, where there will be fun activities.
