Coping with COVID: March 30

Candidates for school boards in Homewood and Flossmoor filed petitions and other paperwork this week with the Cook County Clerk’s office.

Filing for the school board positions is the first step candidates must take to get on the ballot for the consolidated election on April 6, 2021.

The filing period for candidates in local school board, village board and park board contests began on Dec. 14. Filing concludes next Monday, Dec. 21.

Four-year board seats are at stake in Homewood-Flossmoor High School District 233, Homewood District 153 and Flossmoor District . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
