Cook County distributes masks, gloves to area first responders

In this season of giving, consider donating to a food and clothing drive being conducted from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Volunteers with Catholic Charities will be in the parking lot of St. Joseph Church, 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood, collecting non-perishable food for the local South Suburbs pantry.

Donors can also bring clothing items for this drive. As temperatures change, many are in needs of winter wear. Clothing will be donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
