Anyone who wants to know the lineup for this summer’s fifth annual Trail Mix music and art festival will get a sneak peak on Saturday.

Trail Mix organizers are adding Wintry Mix to its performance lineup. The indoor concert from 6 to 10:30 p.m. is on Saturday, March 7. Despite the chilly name, Wintry Mix will take place in the warmth of Rabid Brewing, 17759 Bretz Drive in Homewood.

The lineup for the summer festival will be announced that night. Lead organizer Steve Ploum said he thinks local festival fans will be pleased with the summer lineup.

“We’re really excited. We’re bringing artists from all over, including one artist that receives limitless critical reviews by the likes of John Hiatt, who calls him one of Nashville’s finest singer/songwriters,” Ploum said. “That guy and others have toured internationally, played on national television, and have multiple well-reviewed album releases and are a perfect fit for Trail Mix.”

Wintry Mix is intended as a teaser for the summer festival, but Ploum said it will be a substantial teaser, packed with live music from local performers, including Kelly Campos, Butterfield Creek, Kirk Lindstrom and a special guest, The Secret Lives, Andrew Robert Palmer and Work in Progress.

In addition to Ploum, the Trail Mix/Wintry Mix planning committee includes Steve Buchtel, Theresa Marketti, Jeff Maharry and Kirk Lindstrom.  John Brinkman is the liaison to the Izaak Walton Nature Preserve Board.

Sponsors so far this year’s summer festival include the Wexler Group, Homewood Arts Council, the Jay Heiferman Family, Pomps Tire Services, 1 Fine Tune and the Guitar Center in Merrillville, Indiana.

Ploum said organizers are seeking additional sponsors. Anyone who is interested should write to [email protected] for more information.

Organizers will also accept donations at Wintry Mix for the summer festival. Donations will also benefit Izaak Walton.

“I think of it as a really fun way to support Izaak Walton while also benefiting from what the preserve offers: picnicking, listening to music, communing, meeting neighbors,” Ploum said.
