Forum for 40th District Senate candidates is Feb. 29

Candidates for the 40th Illinois Senate seat will address the issues at a League of Women Voters of the Park Forest area forum at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, at the Park Forest Village Hall, 350 Victory Drive in Park Forest.

The district includes parts of Homewood and Flossmoor.

The 40th District seat was held by Toi Hutchinson for 10 years. She stepped down in October 2019 to become a special assistant to Gov. J.B. Pritzer to implement the laws legalizing marijuana sales in Illinois. Her unofficial title is Illinois pot czar.

Patrick Joyce of Essex in Kankakee County was selected by the district’s committeemen to fill the seat. He is running for election in the March 17 primary facing Marta Perales, Lori Wilcox and Monica Gordon on the Democratic ballot.
