‘The Coat Lady’ brings warmth to those in need

Activities at Homewood-Flossmoor High School haven’t stopped – they’ve just gone virtual. Registration ends this week for the annual Operation Snowball event, a program H-F has run for nearly 40 years.

Operation Snowball is an international alcohol, tobacco and other drug-use prevention program that focuses on leadership development to help empower students to lead drug-free lives.

COVID-19 safety precautions mean the traditional three-night/four-day event at Camp Manitoqua can’t happen, but organizers are hoping students will still be open to the idea of coming together Friday . . .

Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • Dia de los Muertos in downtown Homewood. Details to follow.
