Homewood to cover Ashland Avenue sewer repairs

More than 150 photos have been entered in the second annual Homewood Izaak Walton Photo Contest, according to the nature preserve's photo contest committee, and fans of the preserve are invited to vote on their favorites.

"We are delighted that despite the pandemic, so many photographers still took the time to enter their photos," said Howard Wolinsky, spokesman for the photo committee.

An independent panel of professional photographers will choose their favorites.

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
