Founded in 2002, the Reaching Back Foundation’s goals are to “support, nurture and empower organizations and individuals who promote the welfare, development and educational opportunities for African American children, youth and families.”

The Phenomenal Woman event recognized Anderson as someone who embodies the vision of the organization in the community and in her area of expertise, and serves as a foundation fundraiser.

Anderson, who has been H-F principal since 2017, has left her mark at all levels of education. She has been a teacher for elementary through college level students, and has served as an administrator at middle and high schools and at the district level.

“I am honored to receive the Phenomenal Woman 2020 Service in Education Award from the Reaching Back Foundation. I appreciate and support the work of the Foundation in the South Suburbs as it takes all of us working together, doing our part to invest in our youth, their future and the future of our community,” she told the H-F Chronicle.

“This year, the Reaching Back Foundation committed to the worthwhile endeavor of purchasing 500 books for a summer reading program, 100 Care Bags filled with needed items for homeless students, as well as sponsoring a mentoring program for males in high school and college,” she said.
