Hart team playing to get to state basketball finals

Prairie State College received a $100,000 grant through the Illinois Community College Board for a new dental assistant certificate program geared toward high school students.

PSC is calling it “Pathway to a Bright New Smile” offered through its Allied Health & Emergency Services Department.

The first group of 15 students enrolled in the three-semester program will be from District 227, which serves Rich Township High Schools. They will take college general education courses, in addition to the dental assistant course. Biology instruction will be part of the course.

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
