The Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet & Fitness Center will be getting five pieces of new equipment.

At its board meeting Tuesday, Sept. 17, the board agreed to replace two of its oldest elliptical machines and an old recumbent exerciser.

Commissioners approved a contract with Midwest Commercial Fitness for $21,200 for four Octane ellipticals and one Sci-Fit recumbent elliptical.

“Standard elliptical machines are being replaced with cross trainers, which allow for more movements, such as walk, run, hike and climb. They also offer High Interval Training (HIT) for a 14-minute workout for max calorie burners,” Eileen Rohrer, racquet club manager, told the board.

The company placed machines for demonstration at the club and Rohrer reported getting overwhelming support from members for the Octane ellipticals.

The club is purchasing two cross trainers and two max trainers (HIT).

Rohrer said club members also recommended the purchase of an updated model of a Sci-Fit recumbent, rather than a different brand.
