GSU to host Chicago Southland International Film Festival

Governors State University will host the Chicago Southland International Film Festival Sept. 6, 7 and 8 on its campus in University Park. The festival includes a juried Short Film Competition, a Feature Film Showcase and a director-led question and answer session.
 
 

Governors State University will host the Chicago Southland International Film Festival Sept. 6, 7 and 8 on its campus in University Park.

  days of short films and feature-
  length films.

 

The festival includes a juried Short Film Competition, a Feature Film Showcase and a director-led question and answer session.

The Short Film Competition has received four times the number of submissions over last year’s program. Filmmakers in the competition represent 18 countries and are high school and college students and professional filmmakers.
 
The program opens with funny short films shown from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6. The program moves into horror and thriller films from 8 to 10 p.m.
 
Saturday, Sept. 7, the third round of short films will be shown from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. These films fall into the documentary classification.
 
And from 1:45 to 3:45 p.m. short films exploring the human condition mixed with drama and comedy will be presented.
 
The last group, gripping narratives, will be presented from 4 to 6 p.m. 
 
The awards ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 7, will begin at 6:15 p.m. 
 
The Featured Film Showcase, featuring previous Academy Award nominated films, will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8.  The film “Banana Season,” directed by GSU Professor Sanghoon Lee, will be presented and a question and answer period will follow.
 
The festival is funded, in part, with an Intellectual Life Grant awarded to GSU’s library.
 
Tickets for the three-day festival are $50 general admission and $30 for students. Tickets also will be sold per short film program on Sept. 6 and 7. General admission tickets are $10, GSU alumni are $7 and students are $5. 
 
Tickets for the Sunday Feature Film Showcase are $20 for general admission, $15 for GSU alumni and $10 for students.
