Donohue, vice president of philanthropy at the Ingalls Development Foundation, takes over as president of the organization established in 1936. Today there are 38 members, one of the largest clubs in Rotary’s District 6450 that extends from Chicago south to Kankakee.

The club is hosting its charity golf outing Aug. 19 at Glenwoodie Golf Course in Glenwood. Information is available from Paul Styles at [email protected].

The organization’s motto – Service Above Self – exemplifies Rotary members support in the community, Donohue said.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and humbled to succeed a longstanding tradition of strong civic leadership in Homewood and our surrounding communities,” the new president said.

The Homewood Rotary has been active in supporting numerous organizations, such as the Homewood Rotary Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association, the Dictionary Project presenting all third graders in public and private schools in Homewood, Flossmoor and Glenwood with dictionaries, and the Early Act and Interact Program and Christmas festivities at Glenwood Academy.

It also supports Homewood Baseball, programs for the Homewood police department, Homewood District 153 and the Homewood Science Center, Boy Scouts, South Suburban Family Shelter, South Suburban Humane Society and many others.

Rotary also continues its international work through a health care facility in Sierra Leone, a water project in Haiti and polio eradication programs throughout the world.
