Third ‘Coffee with a Cop’ slated for July 19

Four years ago, a group of students at Western Avenue Elementary School in Flossmoor came together as the Green Team. In January, the group conducted its fourth Plastic Bag Drive at the elementary school.

The fourth- and fifth-grade students know plastic film is recyclable but should not be placed in their curbside bins at home. When plastic bags and film are thrown in with normal recycling . . .

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
