The open seat on the Flossmoor Village Board left by former trustee Phil Minga’s resignation earlier this year could be filled as soon as Monday.

Mayor Paul Braun said he will be ready to make his recommendation on a candidate for the position during Monday’s village board meeting.

If the board votes to approve the appointment, the new trustee will be sworn in on Monday as well. The appointee will serve a two-year term until the next election in 2021, according to village code.

The board meets at 7:30 p.m. July 15 in Village Hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road.

Braun said 13 Flossmoor residents applied for the trustee position, but one candidate has indicated they are no longer interested.

Braun’s final interview out of the 12 total candidates was conducted Wednesday afternoon, he said.

“We went through a standard interview process for everyone that applied,” he said. “Everybody got asked the same questions. We provided the same information, so the process was consistent.”

Minga, who served 22 years as a trustee, announced in February that he was resigning from the board so that he could move to a new home with his family after enduring multiple tragedies in his personal life.

Braun chose to delay making an appointment to replace Minga at the time so that the upcoming April election would not be overshadowed. The filing deadline for the election had already passed.

New trustee Gyata Kimmons as well as longtime trustees Perry Hoag and Jim Mitros were sworn in to serve four-year terms in May.
