Humane society plans June 22 grand opening for new adoption center

The South Suburban Humane Society will celebrate the opening of its new adoption center at 2207 183rd St. in Homewood on Saturday, June 22.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is set for Friday and will be followed by a grand opening open house Saturday from noon until 5 p.m. The organization plans refreshments, raffles and pet adoptions.

The Homewood Adoption Center will occupy the building that formerly was home to Homewood Animal Hospital. The facility will nearly double the organization’s capacity to care for dogs and will increase space for cats, too, according to an email sent out Thursday.

SSHS is still raising money to help finish building renovations. Anyone who wishes to help can make donations online
