Calyn Brumley honored as a top Marian Catholic graduate

While people adjust to working from home, I’ve been at it for a while. As a freelancer, I spend hours at the computer in my home office, working while drinking too much coffee and taking breaks to look out the window.

My office window faces a busy road in Homewood, and I enjoy watching people walk by—students, commuters and neighbors going between their day’s destinations.

Lately, that’s all changed. I don’t see the work warriors or students with stuffed backpacks. It’s a different crowd now.

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
