The outdoor market returns with its popular features, including live music, monthly artisan and vintage goods, a series of Wednesday evening dates and, of course, fresh produce.
The weekly outdoor market on Martin Square, 18020 Martin Ave., celebrates the bounty of local farmers all summer long.
The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday until Oct. 12 and from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays from June 12 through Aug. 14.
“It will be great to be outside again,” said farmers market organizer Kate Duff. “This market grows every year in popularity and vendor participation. I’m anticipating this year to be the best yet.”
Opening day festivities on May 25 include a 9 to 11 a.m. performance by the James Hart Junior High band under the direction of Matt Johnson. Guitarist Dominic Ruffalo, a regular performer at the market, will play from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For the kids, Mary Macaroni will present her balloon magic from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
There will be a toddler tent filled with age-appropriate activities. The Homewood Science Center opens its doors for a Building Basics PopUp Science program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Patrons can also pick up new Homewood Farmers Market reusable bags.
Regular food vendors at the Homewood Farmers Market feature fresh fruits and vegetables from Benton Harbor Bee Company & Fruit Market and Six Generations Farmin’ Local vegetarian prepared meals from The Sunshine Kitchen; olive oils, vinegars, salsas and sauces from Sonoma Farm; homemade scones and cookies from Organic Bread of Heaven; Mexican food from El Coyote; flowers and locally produced honey from Zeldenrust Farm Market; and more.
The last Saturday of each month features the popular Hunt & Gather Market where attendees can shop for unique vintage finds, antique and retro home goods, hand-crafted artisan candles, soaps, jewelry and more.
The Homewood Science Center, adjacent to the market, will host periodic science events. In addition to the Building Basics event on May 25, programs will include Go Green! on June 22, Metal Mania on July 27, Bubble Bash on Aug. 24 and Science of Healthy Choices on Sept. 28.
