Star Wars fans celebrate May 4th at Homewood library

The latest in the H-F community’s efforts to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Fox32 reported on Saturday that a Hazel Crest woman has tested positive for coronavirus and came in contact with Hazel Crest police officers, who are now in quarantine.
  • Looking for activities to keep the kids occupied while schools are closed? Michelle Nelson of Flossmoor posted a link Sunday to  the LEGO Quarantine Survival Challenge.
  • For those who really want to keep up with the COVID-19 cases worldwide, ncov2019.live is a site that updates every few minutes with the latest numbers of confirmed infections, deaths, serious. If you want some good news, it also monitors how many people have recovered (more than 77,000 as of this morning). The site was created by Avi Schiffmann, a high school student in Washington state.
  • The state has ordered bars and restaurants to close to dine-in customers at the end of today and remain closed through March 30. The village of Homewood is working on a plan to help promote those restaurants that can provide take-out service in the interim. More information to follow.
  • The Illinois Retail Merchants Association issued a statement today urging consumers to return to more normal shopping patterns. (As normal as possible, anyway.) “It’s imperative for everyone to maintain their normal shopping routine to ensure the safety of our employees, fellow customers and your neighbors. IRMA has worked closely with state officials to ensure regulatory obstacles to restocking shelves are removed so consumers can access items they may need during this public health crisis,” said Rob Karr, president and CEO.
