If you met Manny Scott, you would acknowledge him as someone who is successful. He’s completing a Ph.D., is an inspirational speaker and author with a beautiful family.

Yes, he says, he is successful, but much of the credit goes to teachers and school personnel who gave him love and hope that helped him turn away from gangs and a self-destructive lifestyle.

Scott had District 153 teachers crying . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
