Matthew Lyke has been named the new athletic director for Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

Lyke was the athletic director at Lincoln-Way North High School before it closed.

Lyke’s appointment was approved by the District 233 school board at the Feb. 18 meeting. His salary will be $115,000. He was given a one-year contract starting July 1.

When Dan Vosnos, the former athletic director, left in summer 2019, Gail Smith, director of activities, accepted the role of acting athletic director. Lyke has had the director of activities . . .

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
