Black History Month is a time for us to look into our community and lift up the work of some amazing people. We remember well-known historical figures that stood up for Civil Rights like Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King and Angela Davis. We also celebrate lesser known heroes who are just as committed to safety, justice and equality. As a Reproductive Health organization, Planned Parenthood of Illinois would like to lift up the work of an incredible woman who has dedicated her career . . .

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
