This year, park enthusiasts will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, to pick up litter, rake leaves, spread mulch, plant flowers pull weeds and do other tasks that help prepare the more than 30 parks in the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District system for the warm months.
The event has been held every year for more than three decades. H-F Park District staff district staff help supervise the work, and the district provides materials, including a T-shirt for each volunteer. Local businesses sponsor a lunch after the work is done to thank the volunteers.
Park district officials say the event is a great opportunity for organizations, including Scout troops, churches and businesses, to give back to the community. It’s also a chance for neighbors to socialize and have fun while doing a good deed.
The lunch will begin at 11 a.m. at Irwin Park, 18120 Highland Ave.
