Stringfellow also was presented the Male Field Athlete Award for his outstanding performance. He was the first H-F student selected for the honor.
He took second place in the long jump with a distance of 23 feet, 2 inches and set the two records with a distance of 49 feet, 6 inches in the triple jump.
Stringfellow will compete next for the University of Houston.
H-F was one of 120 schools in the competition. It is the third time it has been invited to the ASICS meet.
H-F’s Quinton Stringfellow prepares to land his record- setting long jump at the ASICS Invitational.
H-F team members are Seun Adeyiga, Ugo Anidobu, Josh Bridges, Davell Clemon, Marshall Ellis, Jalen Hunter, Caleb Lenoir, Cameron Payne, Jalen Robinson, Quinton Stringfellow, Abdul-Karim Toheeb-Lawal. The team is coached by head coach Nate Beebe and assistant coach Rob Assise.
The 4×100 relay team won the event at 42.08 seconds. It was the second time H-F won the event, and with the identical score. Seniors Adeyiga and Bridges paired with sophomores Anidobu and Ellis in the event. Beebe said it was first meet the four had run together.
Out of 45 athletes in the 100-meter dash, Adeyiga came in fifth, Bridges was sixth and Anidobu 19th.
Sophomore Ugo Anidobu, at right, competes in the 100m dash at the ASICS Mount Carmel Invitational in March. He was one of 45 competitors.
Out of 45 athletes in the 200-meter dash, Adeyiga was seventh and Ellis was ninth.
Senior Davell Clemon ran the 400-meter with a time of 50.72 seconds, a top-10 time in the state.
Toheeb-Lawal set a personal best with a high jump of 5 feet, 11 inches. Also competing for H-F in the high jump was Cameron Payne.
Senior Jalen Robinson competed in the 800-meter and junior Caleb Lenoir competed in the 400-meter.
H-F’s track and field events have been indoors. The California meet was the first outdoor meet. Competitors need to adjust quickly because the conditions change with wind and temperatures, coach Beebe said, and sun and cloudiness can play on the runner’s vision.
Homewood-Flossmoor High School track and field team members won several races when they competed for the third year at the ASICS Mount Carmel Invitational in California.
H-F now will go into outdoor mode and host 21 teams for an invitational on Saturday, April 13.
“I love the way we look as we head into the outdoor regular season,” said assistant coach Assise. “Last year we rocketed through indoor and in some ways plateaued after the California trip. I don’t see that this year. I think I see a group that’s hungry to improve, that feels like they’re just getting started.”
“Everything we do is designed around three meets,” Beebe said. “The conference championship May 9, the sectional state qualifying meet on May 16 and then the state meet May 23 through 25.”
H-F took second as a team competing in 18 events at a meet in Belleville, Illinois, on April 6.
In addition, junior Daylin Williams broke the indoor 60-meter hurdles record with a time of 8.25 seconds at the Illinois Top Times Invitational at Illinois Weslyan on March 23.
