Flossmoor police arrest suspect in armed robbery

Homewood police officers responded at about 11:20 a.m. on Friday to a report of shots fired near 187th Street and Center Avenue.

Investigating officers found shell casings in the vicinity but did not locate anyone who might have been a victim or perpetrator.

Both James Hart School and Churchill School were placed on lockdown while officers searched the area, police said. Churchill School is about three blocks from the site where the shots reportedly were fired. James Hart is about five blocks away.

  • Homewood 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, then follows Ridge Road to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
  • Flossmoor 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and ends downtown, where there will be fun activities.
