The Cook County Medical Examiner found that James Kerrigan, 78, who lived in the 1000 block of 185th St., died of multiple sharp force injuries, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.
Kerrigan’s body was found when firefighters responded to a blaze at his home about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The Homewood Police Department continues to investigate with assistance from the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.
A separate investigation into the cause of the fire is still being conducted, police said.
