Pancake breakfast fundraiser Feb. 16 at H-F High

Area eighth-graders and their families are invited to Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s annual Voyage to Excellence Open House on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Incoming families will become acquainted with the school’s curricular and extracurricular programs, and will be able to meet department chairs, teachers, coaches and sponsors.The evening is meant for exploring. Booths from the school’s academic departments, clubs, sports and activities will be located throughout the North Building Fieldhouse, providing information on the organizations and how to get involved. Impromptu performances by members of the Viking . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
