Homewood-Flossmoor’s Vikings dominated Lockport 74-57 to give the team the perfect ending to their Senior Night celebration. Senior Issac Stanback led the way for the Vikings with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
All athletic trainers, cheerleaders and poms dancers who will be graduating later this year were recognized with their respective loved ones before the game Friday.
Senior Trace Williams ended the night with 11 points but two of those were bit more special than usual. After a steal early in the fourth quarter, Williams finished the break with a slam.
“I told my dad before the game, I was gonna get one for him. So, I had to at least try,” Williams said.
Lockport’s 6-foot, 8-inch Thomas Halatek created some problems for the Vikings in the first half. Stanback and junior R.J. Ogom had the responsibility of guarding Halatek regardless of the mismatch.
“He’s good once he gets his back on you, so we just had to front him and work as a team,” Stanback said.
Senior Damen Trice Jr. hit a corner three to give the Vikings a five-point lead going into the second half. Senior Matthew Hatzopoulos kept the Porters in the game with 11 points and multiple threes.
H-F would eventually separate themselves as more shots began to fall, including two back-to-back threes from senior forward Maurion Scott in the third quarter.
With this win, the Vikings stand at 17-5 and are in a tie with Bolingbrook at 6-1 in the Southwest Suburban Conference standings.
H-F will face off in a big game in the Raiders’ house Friday with the hopes of taking the conference lead into the playoffs.
“Every game is important. There’s no room to slip up,” H-F head coach Marc Condotti said.
