Each year, a deserving family or individual has reason to believe in miracles when the Homewood Chevy Cares program provides a free new car. The program is open to anyone. People can nominate themselves or their own family, or they can nominate someone else they believe is deserving.
Last year, a Homewood family, Robert and Sandra Maszak, won the car. The couple care for their disabled great-granddaughter, Tori.
In 2017, the car was awarded to a then-homeless woman from Chicago, who was nominated by a city bus driver.
The year before a Palatine family, whose 12-year-old daughter had been battling brain cancer since she was 3, was selected.
The first year of the program an Oak Forest family, also with a child suffering from cancer, received the free car.
The nomination process for this year’s car giveaway opened Friday. Anyone who has a story to tell about how a free new car would change their life is invited to submit it at homewoodchevycares.com. The deadline is Dec. 15.
Voting will be conducted the week of Dec. 15, and the winner will be announced Dec. 20.
