The South Suburbs will have its third Queen of Hearts 50/50 raffle when Marian Catholic High School draws its first number on Jan. 31.

Tickets are $5 for six chances to win. The drawing will be at 8 p.m. on Thursdays at Carlo Lorenzetti’s Restaurant, 560 W. 14th Place, Chicago Heights.

The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Foundation was the first local organization to start a Queen of Hearts raffle in early September. The winning card has yet to be selected.
The pot is more than $22,000. Ticket sales and the drawing are at Wiley’s Grill at Coyote Run, 800 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. The monies will benefit the work of the H-F Foundation to support extracurricular activities; a parent organization sponsoring the H-F singers trip to Italy; and the Flossmoor Service League.

The second raffle was begun in November to benefit the Glenwood Academy. Ticket sales and the drawing are at 5th Quarter, 18105 Dixie Highway, on Wednesdays. The pot is more than $7,000.

Each Queen of Hearts raffle accepts $5 donations for six tickets. A purchaser gets to write a number between 1 and 54 on each ticket. That ticket goes into a drum.  If the ticket is selected, the number on the ticket is matched with the card number on the deck of cards on the board. If the Queen of Hearts is turned over, there is a lucky winner.

If there is no winner, ticket sales begin anew for the next week’s drawing.
