April 2019 Candidate Profile

On Nov. 1, 2 and 3, Governors State University’s Theatre and Performance Studies program will present “The Laramie Project,” a docudrama reflection on the kidnapping and brutal murder of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old gay student at the University of Wyoming.

The production, created by Moises Kaufman and members of Tectonic Theater Project, is based on hours of interviews with residents of Laramie. It explores how the brutal crime sparked a national movement that shed much needed attention on the treatment, tolerance and acceptance of LGBTQ+ citizens.

For this production, 17 GSU actors, including Sade’ May of Flossmoor, will perform the roles of 60 characters.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Nov 1 and 2, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3. Tickets are $15, or $10 for students with a valid ID. For tickets, visit CenterTickets.net or call 708-235-2222.
