Holiday Lights winter festival ‘magical’ despite cold temps

The Homewood Fire Department has entered its “Night Sounds” video in a contest that could win the department up to $25,000.   Homewood Fire Department  submitted its video "Night  Sounds" for a contest promoting  sleeping with the bedroom  door closed while sleeping.  

Voting through the online competition, sponsored by UL Fire Safety Research Institute, ends at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15. The prize money will be designated for public education efforts . . .

Winter events

THURSDAY, DEC. 1

  • Flossmoor Business Association open house, 5 to 7 p.m., downtown Flossmoor.

FRIDAY, DEC. 2

  • Holiday Lights in Homewood, 5 to 9 p.m., Ridge Road and Martin Avenue downtown. Shopping, carousel, mulled wine, cookies, ice sculpture, music, antique car parade.
  • Tree-lighting ceremony with Santa Claus, 7 p.m., Irwin Park.

SATURDAY, DEC. 3

  • Janet Gustafson’s gingerbread village tours, 3 to 6 p.m. Register at flossmoor.org.
