KHA AS Dec 2018

Makaela Miller, a sophomore at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, used her own money to help with school supplies so students at Willow School in Homewood would have all the essentials.  For the second consecutive year,  Makaela Miller of Homewood  used her own money to buy  10 backpacks and school  supplies for children at Willow  School. (Provided photos) 

That was in August 2018.

She repeated her act of kindness this year, and her brother Myles, a second grader at Willow, joined her. Makaela said she just decided . . .

Winter events

THURSDAY, DEC. 1

  • Flossmoor Business Association open house, 5 to 7 p.m., downtown Flossmoor.

FRIDAY, DEC. 2

  • Holiday Lights in Homewood, 5 to 9 p.m., Ridge Road and Martin Avenue downtown. Shopping, carousel, mulled wine, cookies, ice sculpture, music, antique car parade.
  • Tree-lighting ceremony with Santa Claus, 7 p.m., Irwin Park.

SATURDAY, DEC. 3

  • Janet Gustafson’s gingerbread village tours, 3 to 6 p.m. Register at flossmoor.org.
