Irish family drama presented in December at Drama Group

The Drama Group’s next show will be “Dancing at Lughnasa,” the story of the Mundy sisters hoping for love in a small town on the west coast of Irelend in 1936, only to see a cloudy future.

Author Brian Friel based the play loosely on the lives of his mother and aunts. The show is narrated by their younger brother. It tells the story of the five young women in the Mundy family who during the summer months believed love might be possible.

Then the family welcomes home Jack, their frail elder brother returned from missionary service in Africa. As summer fades, the family’s hopes are dashed as they foresee sadness and economic privations coming.

Geoffrey Purvis of Homewood is cast member Gerry. Russ Hoganson of Homewood is set designer and Bob Sullivan of Homewood is in charge of set construction.

The production is presented with afternoon and evening performances. On Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8, the show is at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, Dec. 9, the show is at 2 p.m.  Performances the following weekend are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13, 14 and 15, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16.  All shows are at the Milord Studio Theatre, 330 W. 202nd St., Chicago Heights.
