Bus service working better this year in District 161

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District cooked more than 850 hot dogs for its 12th National Hot Dog Day picnic Tuesday, July 23, in Irwin Park in Homewood. Guests started lining up at 11 a.m. for the specialty treats – hot dogs, chips and drinks – provided by Walt’s Food Centers, Dutch Farms, Pepsi and Fox Vending. More tan 700 guests paid 75-cents for their hot dog lunch. Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
