As summer officially begins Friday, the Village of Flossmoor is sponsoring its first-ever Pride event, a celebration of the LGBTQ community.  Pride flags have been flying  in downtown Flossmoor  throughout the month of June  in observance of LGBTQ Pride  Month. (Tom Houlihan/  H-F Chronicle)

The event, slated between 6 and 10 p.m. in downtown Flossmoor, features a concert by the rock group Catfight, performances by other local entertainers and food and drinks from restaurants in the village.

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
