during this year’s Hobo
Night festivities.
The evening, hosted by the Village of Homewood Rail Committee, will include a hobo snack for everyone under the age of 18 and a hobo decoder book to learn how the rail-riders communicated. One-man band and Homewood resident M.G. Bailey will perform train-themed songs, as well as lead a sing-a-long.
Everyone will receive a sample of hobo stew created by Redbird Cafe for this occasion.
The event will include tours of the Illinois Central locomotive and caboose.
“Homewood is celebrating its rich rail history with this fun evening out for the whole family,” Mayor Richard Hofeld said. “The spirit of the event is to introduce and educate youngsters about how life was for a group of people who ‘rode the rails’ from town to town looking for work. It’s a nice time to come out, hear music, eat s’mores and learn about a part of American lore that is often overlooked.”
Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
